Cellophane Human Form Sculptures

 7^th grade artists have spent the past few weeks exploring form, movement, and sculpture. While working in groups of two or three, each student had the opportunity to model and wrap their arms, torso, head and shoulders to construct cast of the human form. Each sculpture was required to display action, while incorporating the elements of art and principles of design. Throughout the project, the artists were faced with numerous challenges and figured out solutions to particular visual arts problems relating structural relationships, thinking outside of the box in regards to materials, and problem solving skills as a team, all while thinking in terms of 3 dimension versus 2 dimension.

The cellophane sculptures will be displayed in the foyer of the Brown-Holt Chapel Arts Building next week before they find their permanent home in the visual arts room.

The Making of: Cellophane Human Sculptures

Students used packaging tape and cellophane to wrap their arms, torso, and head. Each piece was then carefully assembled creating the human form in action. From ballerinas and swimmers to figures "walking like an Egyptian," 7th graders are well on their way to making awesome forms! 

Step 1: Wrap with one layer of packing tape facing sticky side up. Step  2: Cover with several smooth layers of cellophane.  

Step 3: Remove the form 

Step 4: Frighten your teacher!
