what's up.

What We Do:
This course offers an exploration of the elements of art (line, space, texture, value, shape, form and color). Students will also discover the principles of design (balance, rhythm, movement, proportion, variety, emphasis and unity). These elements and principles will be implemented by studying various artist, their inspirations and their techniques. A variety of mediums such as graphite, paint, watercolor, colored pencils, pastels and clay will be used. Besides creating 2D and 3D work, students will be expected to participate in critiques, both verbal and written, and begin to explore what makes a composition work and not work.

What I Expect:
Be on time for class. Come prepared and ready to work. Use your class time wisely. Clean up after yourself. Projects and assignments are to be turned in on time. If the project is not turned in on time, points will be subtracted from your grade each day it is late. If you are absent from school when an assignment is due it must be turned in as soon as you return. Respect me as your teacher and respect your classmates and their artwork.
ENJOY the class! There is no right or wrong when it comes to creating. Put forth a good effort everyday and you will see great results!

Where It Counts:
Participation Points: Students earn 3 points per day. To earn all 3 points daily you must:
  • Be Prompt
  • Be Prepared
  • Be ready to Participate (from beginning to end, including clean up)
The following is a rough breakdown of assignment:
  • In-class Projects = 60%
  • Sketchbook Assignments = 25%

Students will lose 10% for each day that an assignment is late for up to 5 days. After the 5 days, it is up to me whether or not it will be accepted. Please be responsible for turning in each project. Remember, the instructor doesn't give grades, you earn them.
